They had Star Trek memorabilia to buy, a Parade that morning (which had original actors from the T.V. show), carnival rides, demolition derby, food booths, a variety of fun contests, a rodeo, fire works and much more. (It reminded me of a small town fair)
At the parade the kids picked up lots of candy.....it didn't take Bella long to figure out how to run grab it as soon as it was thrown. She was soooo good at getting it, that she would run in front of other kids and take theirs too! And she didn't like coming to drop off her handful in the bag, so she would just keep stuffing more into her arms. (Go figure, she loves CANDY) It was also very, very, very hot and humid, gotta love that humidity.
Gunner was able to participate in a few different contests. The first one was the tractor pull. The tractor and trailer were the old heavy metal kind and they added weights (which is the brown tubes behind gunner) to the trailer to make it harder to pull. Needless to say it was really hard to petal, Guns actually did really well. You can watch the video, but you will need to turn your head sideways! And yes, it was really hot and humid (again) you can tell by the way my hair is sticking to my face. :)
Next was the greased pig contest! They split it up in to age groups, so Gunner competed against other 6 yr olds, and unfortunately Bella was too young. She was able to pet the pigs as they would run by the panels, which was just as good for her. Just before Gunners age group went a big rain storm hit, and everyone in the area scrammed to get under cover....we were drenched and cold as we waited for it to pass. Rugers blanket took the rain for him, he was the only one that was dry. Those that don't know, the goal of the contest was to pick up a soapy slippery squealing pig and get him in the basket........watch the video, Guns was Awesome!
At the rodeo they had a "calf chase" for kids 12 and under. The clown that was over seeing it was quite the character. The one picture of the clown on the bull was at the parade. Before they started the chase, he had all the kids doing exercises (jumping jacks, stretches, and sit-ups) in the mud. It was thick black mud, super sticky, and don't forget it had been raining, so it was wet too! Gunner was a good sport and played along, as for the chase...well it didn't seem like he ran to far, his feet were constantly stuck in the mud!
